Time to migrate off Yahoo

In light of yet another report of a massive data breech at Yahoo, this time with the personal information of a staggering 1 billion user accounts stolen, it's become clear that Yahoo is no longer a safe service to be using. This is in addition to a recent earlier report of a separate incident where the private information of 500 million (an unbelievably large number at the time) users accounts was stolen. With the future of Yahoo already in question, given their financial difficulties as well as the ongoing attempted sale of Yahoo to Verizon, the overall future of this once-great giant of the early internet is in serious question.

I advise all clients to create a new email account at a more reputable company. Google's Gmail service is popular and seems reliable as well as easy to use. If using Google and/or letting them have access to all your emails is not your thing, there are other dedicated email services out there from companies offering a much higher level of service and (actual) support. Usually these companies do charge for this service, but given the importance of email in this day and age I do feel that it's worth paying a bit for something that you rely on as a critical part of your life. A company I can recommend is FastMail, with plans starting as little as $30/year (you likely pay several times more than that on coffee). If you have other email needs, such as a custom domain name (either for a professional internet image, or you would like to not have your email address change every time you change who you get your email through) I can help with this as well. Please contact me to discuss your specific needs.
