2yo Chome bug puts Windows users at risk of scam

It's being reported at betanews as well as other sites that a bug in Chrome that was discovered and reported to Google 2 years ago is now being actively exploited by a malcious website to infect users' computers. The flaw allows a website to pop up a convincing warning message suggesting to the user that their computer is infected, and trying to get them to call a tech support number for assistance. As it the norm for this type of scam, the fake "tech support" person at the other end of this call will proceed to trick the user into installing remote control software, install even more malicious software on the victim's computer, then try to extort hundreds of dollars from the victim in "repair fees" to get them cleaned and safe again.

If you are a user of the Google Chrome web browser, you may consider using Mozilla Firefox instead. I do recommend Firefox as a general practice due to performance, resource and other issues I've been seeing lately with Chrome but this new development is another factor to consider. At the end of the day, the most important thing is to not be using Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser as it is notorious for being a malware magnet due to its massive number of bugs and huge target base.
