Unfortunately MacOS changes has made initial setup of the remote control software a bit difficult. Here are instructions in case I haven't had hands-on time with your computer to do this for you:
First, go to remote.vtgeek.com or vtgeek.com/remote in your web browser to go to the download links. Click on the link for "MacOS".
If you are using Mozilla Firefox (recommended) you'll get a prompt as shown below.
You can opt for the default to just immediately open the file (which is what you're going to need to do anyway) or you can save it first. If you open it, you can skip forward some of the next steps. If you save it, the default location will be the "Downloads" folder unless you manually choose another location. If you are using Safari, it'll download to the "Downloads" folder without prompting.
Your "Downloads" folder can be found as the icon to the left of the trash icon in the lower-right of the screen:
Click on it and it'll expand, the file "vtgeek.dmg" should be at the top. You can just click on the file in this pop-up to launch it (if you click on the arrow for "Open in finder", your Downloads folder will open in a new window and you can select vtgeek.dmg from there and double-click on it).
Regardless of how you open the vtgeek.dmg file, the next thing you should see is:
Although it says to double-click on the icon, that won't actually work, and we want to keep this app handy for later use. First drag and drop the red "AnyDesk" icon onto your desktop. Then on this icon, you need to use a two-finger click (aka "Control click") on a trackpad (or a right-button click using a mouse) on the icon to bring up a menu. Another way to bring up the menu is to hold down the [Control] key on the keyboard while doing a regular click (more details on how to do this sort of click can be found here). If you do it correctly, this menu should pop up:
Select "Open" at the top to launch the client. You'll get the following warning:
Just click the [Open] button. The app will open and will look like this:
Unfortunately the next step is hidden... you need to drag the bottom or corner of the window to expand it larger:
Click on the "Configure" link. You'll get the following box:
Just click the "Open System Preferences" link. You'll get the following window:
First you'll need to click on the padlock in the lower-left. You'll be prompted for your administrator/login password... this is the password you use to log into the Mac when you first start it up (it's not necessarily your iCloud/AppleID password unless you happened to make them the same). Once you unlock the ability to make changes on this window, in the Privacy section (top menu) and the "Accessibility" part on the left, as shown below:
Make sure you check the box next to "AnyDesk" as shown above. Now scroll down on the left side to find "Screen Recording" and click on that. The list of apps to the right should change. Check the box for "AnyDesk" here as well. This time you'll get a notice:
Click on the [Quit Now] button. You can now close the System Preferences window, and you'll have to launch the AnyDesk app again from the icon you copied to your desktop. This time if you did everything correctly, if you expand the bottom of the window again you should no longer see the "Configure Permissions" section:
You're all set! When it's time for a remote session, just provide me with that 9-digit number.
